We asked our top team of writers and a leading odds-compiler for their thoughts on this week's big talking points and this is how they answered ...

What is your best sport bet this weekend?

Racing Post's Dan Childs Alex de Minaur dealt well with a dangerous opponent and a partisan crowd when defeating Britain's Jack Draper 5-7 7-6 6-2 6-3 on Thursday and he can follow up with a straight sets success over Liam Broady in the Wimbledon third round.
The Australian could go a lot further and looks too strong for Broady, who had to dig deep in his second-round success over Diego Schwartzman.

Racing Post's Henry Hardwicke Gaassee looks mighty short in the bet365 Old Newton Cup at Haydock on Saturday and at around 10-1 I’d take Liverpool Knight each-way against the William Haggas-trained jolly. Liverpool Knight was extremely impressive at Windsor last time out, and while this is a tougher race, conditions suit and I think there is more to come.

Racing Post's James Milton Michael Pepper at 3-1 with Coral to top-score for Essex against Glamorgan in the T20 Blast. His six Blast innings at Chelmsford this season have produced scores of 75 not out, 50, nine, 36, 86 not out and 48 off 18 balls against a classy Surrey attack last time out. Perhaps in future seasons we'll see Pepper batting with Phil Salt in England's white-ball teams ...

Steve Freeth of bet365 I’ve been picking the brains of of our racing main man Pat Cooney and he’s pointed me in the direction of the bet365 Old Newton Cup at Haydock. It hasn’t been a good race for favourites, but expect that to change as Gaassee looks to have strong claims for in-form William Haggas. He’s highly regarded by the stable and will be tough to beat.

Will Gabriel Jesus score 15 Premier League goals this season?

Racing Post's Dan Childs Gabriel Jesus was never an automatic first choice for Manchester City but he should play week-in week-out at Arsenal and could score plenty of goals in his first season. Jesus's best goalscoring season was the 2019-20 campaign when he netted 14 league goals. I would fancy him to do even better providing he steers clear of injury.

Racing Post's Henry Hardwicke I think Gabriel Jesus will be a good signing for Arsenal but he may struggle to reach the 15-goal mark. The Gunners were the lowest scorers of the Premier League's top-five sides last season and I don’t think the Brazilian will be Mikel Arteta’s regular penalty-taker.

Racing Post's James Milton Not quite, although I think he will improve Arsenal. The Gunners shared their 61 league goals around last season and that trend may well continue with Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard easing the scoring burden on the centre-forward. Punters should also note that Jesus has missed seven of his 12 career penalties so he is no certainty to be entrusted with spot-kick duty.

Steve Freeth of bet365 He knows Arteta, works hard out of possession and is an upgrade on the Arsenal squad. However, we’ve chalked up 4-9 for 15 or fewer for a player who hasn’t outscored his expected-goals in four of the five seasons he was at Manchester City. I think he’ll reach double figures, but 15 might be a stretch.

Is Richarlison a good fit for Tottenham?

Racing Post's Dan Childs Tottenham's main weakness last season was a lack of depth whenever injuries and suspensions arose and the signing of Richarlison should help to address the issue. The Brazilian can be deployed anywhere across the front-line and his aggressive, high intensity style should suit the way Antonio Conte wants to play.

Racing Post's Henry Hardwicke I think this is a shocking signing. Richarlison was Everton’s main striking option for much of last season, but the Brazilian could notch only ten Premier League goals and three of those were penalties. If he isn't standing out in a struggling side I find it difficult to see Richarlison shining at Spurs. I also worry about the temperament of a player who was cautioned nine times last term.

Racing Post's James Milton He's a good player and Spurs wouldn't have wanted him to end up at Arsenal or Chelsea but in the short term it isn't clear how he'll fit into their first-choice 11. Tottenham's front three were so impressive in the second half of last term so Richarlison may need to be patient in his first season but, at 25, he looks a sound long-term investment.

Steve Freeth of bet365 Kane and Son are fantastic and Kulusevski hit the ground running after joining from Juventus, so the addition of Richarlison looks a good fit in the strengthening of the squad with Champions League football now on the agenda. His goal-line for this season is a headscratcher.

Which EFL club has caught the eye with their summer transfers?

Racing Post's Dan Childs Last season was a missed opportunity for West Brom, but they are making the right moves to be more competitive in the Championship this season. They have snapped up classy midfielder John Swift, who stood out in a poor Reading side last season – registering 13 assists and 11 goals – and assist machine Jed Wallace, who has been Millwall's best player for several years.

Racing Post's Henry Hardwicke Newport lost last season’s League Two top scorer Dom Telford but I have been impressed with the incomings at Rodney Parade. Aaron Wildig and Declan Drysdale look solid signings, Omar Bogle is a useful addition and Adam Lewis and Chanka Zimba are interesting loan recruits. Sheffield Wednesday have done well to get former Rotherham pair Michael Smith and Michael Ihiekwe through the door.

Racing Post's James Milton Bristol City have snapped up solid defender Kal Naismith, Luton's player of the season in 2021-22, and highly-rated Forest Green full-back Kane Wilson while West Brom's much-needed squad overhaul has started well. The Baggies have released a dozen players and brought in proven Championship performers Jed Wallace and John Swift, also signing young Ireland international Jayson Molumby on a permanent deal.

Steve Freeth of bet365 I’m delighted to see one of my favourite EFL players in John Swift plying his trade at the Hawthorns this season, while Jed Wallace isn’t too shabby either. Darragh Lenihan to Middlesbrough looks a good bit of business as well and, further down, Stockport’s capture of Fraser Horsfall caught the eye.

Who wins the women's Euros?

Racing Post's Dan Childs It looks a wide open tournament but I would expect the Netherlands to fare well despite a few setbacks in recent friendlies. The Dutch lost 5-1 to England at Elland Road last Friday but I thought they looked the better side in the first half.

Racing Post's Henry Hardwicke Spain are the market-leaders and I think they will lift the trophy. The betting is competitive, but there are probably only six realistic winners of the title and Jorge Vilda’s side look best placed of those. La Roja’s brilliant youth set-ups are filtering their way into the senior side and I fancy them to lift their first European Championship crown.

Racing Post's James Milton As the betting suggests, it is a wide-open tournament although France and Germany are two teams worth opposing towards the top of the market. England, with home advantage and a well-balanced squad, have a great chance but the Netherlands, who won Euro 2017 under current England coach Sarina Wiegman, could be the main dangers.

Steve Freeth of bet365 England look to have a great chance of lifting the trophy, especially with Sarina Wiegman in charge. It’s a good squad with plenty of options out wide, which can only be a good thing for backers of Ellen White in the top-goalscorer market. Norway might go well at a price.
