Verdict

West Brom climbed to the top of the Championship despite a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Millwall on Saturday and they can extend their unbeaten start with a victory over Derby.

Albion manager Valerian Ismael has eyes on automatic promotion and felt that his team did not show enough desire at the weekend.

However, the Baggies have made a strong start to the season and their physical, energetic approach should ask serious questions of Derby, who are 16th with six points from six games.

Derby manager Wayne Rooney has endured a difficult summer as he attempted to wrestle with a transfer embargo, and his small squad has been stretched further by an injury to Colin Kazim-Richards plus a suspension for left-back Craig Forsyth, who sat out the first of three games when the Rams lost 2-0 at Birmingham on Friday.

Rooney's side had 67 per cent possession against Birmingham but lost the shot count 13 to seven and were restricted to mere half-chances.

They are unlikely to be any more effective against Albion, who look decent value to combine victory with a clean sheet.

Promoted Blackpool are starting to believe in their ability to compete in the Championship and can follow up Saturday's remarkable 1-0 success at home to Fulham by defeating Huddersfield at Bloomfield Road.

Neil Critchley's Seasiders were outstanding against the Cottagers, who had scored 13 goals in their previous five games, and will look at the Huddersfield game as another winnable contest.

Huddersfield are on ten points after a decent start but have not kept a clean sheet on their last five Championship road trips and their shaky defence may let them down.

Reading and Peterborough have the worst defensive records in the Championship – conceding 16 and 14 – and are likely to be involved in a high-scoring match at the Madejski Stadium.

The absence of injured captain Mark Beevers is costing Peterborough, who were thumped 6-2 at Sheffield United on Saturday.

But Posh may decide attack is the best form of defence against the Royals, who were hugely frustrated to give up a two-goal lead in their weekend 3-3 draw at home to QPR.

Both teams may look to push forward in search of a much-needed victory.
