Preview

Ipswich are the only League One team awaiting their first home victory of the season but the patience of their long-suffering supporters can be rewarded with three points against basement boys Doncaster.

Pre-season expectations of Ipswich went through the roof after a summer recruitment drive which seemed to strengthen them in all areas of the pitch.

However, manager Paul Cook needs time to work out a strongest 11 and his team have largely struggled, registering seven points from eight games.

The pressure had been building but Ipswich have improved – winning 2-1 at Lincoln and drawing 1-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday – and that can only be bad news for Donny, who are propping up the table with six losses in eight games.

Doncaster showed a bit more fight at the weekend when it took two penalties to condemn them to a 2-1 loss at Plymouth, but they look on course for a season of struggle and could suffer in Suffolk.

Hull have been yo-yoing between the Championship and League One and they could face another tough test at home to Blackpool.

The gap between the third and second tiers can be tricky to bridge and last season was a prime example with Rotherham and Wycombe failing to stay at the higher level.

However, Blackpool are adjusting nicely after a slow start and head to Hull with hopes of registering a fourth win in five league games.

Neil Critchley's team came from behind to win 2-1 at Middlesbrough on their last road trip and have no reason to fear the Tigers, who have gone eight games without a victory.

A summer transfer embargo made it impossible for Hull to carry out the necessary squad strengthening and their struggles look set to continue.

Sunderland are in the early stages of their fourth consecutive season of League One football but there is a more positive vibe around the Stadium of Light these days and it can be maintained with a home victory over mid-table Cheltenham.

Lee Johnson's side are second thanks largely to their faultless home record which was maintained with a hard fought 1-0 success at home to Bolton on Saturday.

Automatic promotion is the only target on their minds and they can stay on track against the Robins, who subsided to a meek 2-0 loss away to Wigan at the weekend.
