Match previews

Freiburg were on the cusp of qualifying for European competition in the Bundesliga last season but they are looking as though they will be lucky to stay in the German top flight this term.

The Black Forest outfit have won only once in their opening nine league matches of 2020-21 and even in that victory over Stuttgart they lost the shot count 26-7 and saw a mere 35 per cent of the ball.

Goals in particular have been a problem - perhaps due to the loss of Luca Waldschmidt to Benfica in the summer - and they have struggled against the league's elite.

Freiburg have lost by at least two goals in games against Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen this term and Borussia Monchengladbach could be the latest side to overpower Christian Streich's men.

Gladbach have made a modest start to the Bundesliga campaign but 4-0 and 6-0 wins over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League emphasised the quality of Alassane Plea and Lars Stindl going forward and they look a good bet in the match result market.

Montpellier have gone about their business rather quietly in Ligue 1 this season but they have been effective and could send shockwaves through the division with a big result against Paris Saint-Germain this weekend.

Bookmakers seem to be underestimating Michel Der Zakarian's men, who are as big as 6-1 in places to beat last season's Champions League runners-up.

Victory over Lorient last time out made it four wins in a row for Montpellier, who have been impressive at their Stade de la Mosson home, where they have won four of their six assignments.

PSG's air of invincibility has somewhat evaporated this season - they have struggled to create any breathing space at the top with Lyon, Lille, Monaco and Marseille among those breathing down their necks.

Defeats to Manchester United and RB Leipzig in the Champions League have raised questions about their chances of going one better and winning the competition this season and they failed to beat Monaco and Bordeaux in their last two league matches.

Andy Delort has been in fine form at the front of Montpellier's attack and he can help them avoid defeat against the reigning French champions.

Granada have booked their place in the Europa League knockout stages and have done a good job of juggling their maiden European voyage with their La Liga duties this term.

They are only three points off the top four and have made home advantage count, winning three of their five league matches at Los Carmenes, where they can see off basement boys Huesca.

The visitors have failed to win any of their opening 11 games and look out of their depth in the top flight.
