Match previews

After a rocky start to the 2020-21 Bundesliga campaign, Freiburg are starting to show glimpses of the side who mounted a challenge for a European berth last season.

The Black Forest outfit are in top form, winning their last four games on the spin against Arminia Bielefeld, Schalke, Hertha Berlin and Hoffenheim.

They managed to score at least two goals in each of those wins with midfield maestro Vicenzo Grifo causing problems and they should be fancied to prevail against strugglers Cologne this weekend.

Cologne started the new year with a 1-0 defeat to Augsburg and have managed only two wins in their previous 14 league assignments this campaign.

Unlike Freiburg, they are struggling in the final third, failing to net in any of their last four games across all competitions and another defeat could nudge them closer to the automatic relegation zone.

Milan's pursuit of a first Serie A title since 2011 was dealt a blow with a 3-1 defeat to Juventus in midweek but they can respond to their first league loss of the season by beating Torino.

The Rossoneri still sit top of the Serie A standings, one point ahead of second-placed Inter, and will recognise the importance of taking maximum points at San Siro on Saturday.

They won the shot count 20-14 against Juventus and had won three games on the spin against Sassuolo, Lazio and Benevento prior to that game.

Torino have somewhat stabilised with a string of stalemates recently but are still in the thick of a relegation battle, having won only two of their 16 league assignments in 2020-21.

Premier marksman Andrea Belotti has not been at his best this term and their tally of 33 goals conceded does not bode well for their contest with Stefano Pioli's men, who can win this league tussle before the sides reconvene next week in the Coppa Italia.

Levante pushed Villarreal close in a 2-1 defeat in La Liga last time out and they can get back to winning ways when they welcome Eibar to the Estadi Ciutat de Valencia this weekend.

In their previous three home assignments Levante have accounted for strong Getafe, Real Sociedad and Real Betis sides, firing nine goals in the process, and that attacking potency could be too much to handle for the visitors.

Eibar could struggle to make the most of a more open affair, having scored only 14 goals in 17 league matches this campaign, and fresh from victory in the second round of the Copa del Rey, Levante can leapfrog their Basque counterparts in the standings with a win.
