Efficient Furth can enhance their survival chances

Four of the bottom five teams in the Bundesliga 2 table have played in the top flight at some point during this decade but at least two could be plying their trade in the third division of German football next season.

One of those sides, Greuther Furth, can do their survival hopes the power of good however as they take on relegation rivals Erzgebirge Aue.

In spite of their perilous position, the Shamrocks are the division’s form side having taken 13 points from the last 15 available which includes a 2-0 win at second-placed Nuremberg and a draw with runaway leaders Fortuna Dusseldorf.

That run of results has seen them climb up to 15th in the standings, one place above hosts Aue who may be made to rue missed chances in each of their last five outings.

The hosts are unbeaten in five but four of those have been draws and whether they possess the cutting edge to score a vital win against in-form Greuther Furth is open to debate.

Damir Buric’s visitors are rarely flashy - three of their recent wins have come by a single goal - but their efficiency is giving them a great chance of survival.
