Dunfermline can add to the doom and gloom of Dundee United's season by taking a first-leg lead in their Ladbrokes Premiership playoff quarter-final.

Allan Johnston's men have their tails up after an excellent end to the season which saw them win five of their last six games and draw the other in Inverness.

They couldn't have picked a better side to face on the long route to the top flight and a struggling Dundee United team will hold little fear for them.

Pre-season jollies United have had a complete disaster of a season and at one stage it looked as though they wouldn't even reach the playoffs.

Every time they seem to have turned a corner, they throw in a shocking performance, as in the recent defeats at Queen of the South and Dumbarton.

The Pars have plenty of in-form players and can take a significant step towards eliminating United with a first-leg win at East End Park.

Stenhousemuir welcome Queen's Park to Ochilview as the Ladbrokes League One playoffs start, but Peterhead should have enough to win promotion to the third tier.

Standings

Ladbrokes Premiership

Ladbrokes Championship

Ladbrokes League One

Ladbrokes League Two

The Blue Toon face Stirling Albion in the semi-finals on Wednesday and have the personnel to recover from Saturday's disappointing failure to win Ladbrokes League Two.

Their squad is crammed full of talented players who have experience at a decent level, but inconsistency was the problem this term as they allowed Montrose to win the title.

When Peterhead click, they are a strong team and they should justify favouritism to win the playoffs.
