Dover's National League survival hopes were dented by a 2-0 loss at Barnet in front of the BT Sport cameras on Saturday but they look solid odds-on favourites to bounce back with a home win over Maidstone in the Kent derby.

There has been an improvement in Dover's performances since Andy Hessenthaler was appointed manager in early October.

When he arrived they were 23rd with seven points from 15 games.

Ten games later they have added a further 14 points to the tally and are only two points adrift of safety.

The Whites have won their last three home matches and should fancy their chances against second-bottom Maidstone, who have lost four league games in succession.

Throughout the season the Stones have struggled defensively and they have lost their attacking spark since Blair Turgott sustained a knee injury in late November.

Turgott has netted 11 of Maidstone's 21 league goals this season and his injury – which rules him out until next month – was a massive blow to their survival hopes.

Mid-table Barnet need a strong second half of the season to get close to the playoffs and can make some progress by beating local rivals Boreham Wood at Meadow Park.

The Bees have been playing catch-up since taking just two points from their first five games of the season but are gaining in confidence, having won five of their last seven matches in all competitions.

They look overpriced away to Wood, who have won just one of their last eight league matches.
