Sunderland’s away form has hindered their automatic promotion ambitions this season and they may not have things all their own way at Doncaster.

The Black Cats have suffered some heavy defeats on the road, conceding five at Rotherham and four against Portsmouth, while keeping one clean sheet in 11 attempts.

But thanks to their excellent home record, Lee Johnson’s men could move into the top two with a win at the Keepmoat Stadium and are odds-on to defeat a relegation-threatened Doncaster side.

Interim Rovers boss Gary McSheffrey inherited a squad blighted by injuries but has also had a Covid outbreak to attend to recently and could be short on options.

McSheffrey, who is hopeful of being named the new permanent Doncaster boss after this game, has improved performances with the South Yorkshire side beating Shrewsbury last time out.

Doncaster should put up a fight and, having only failed to score at home three times this season, can go down swinging against Sunderland.
