Crystal Palace and West Ham soar out of drop zone

Crystal Palace and West Ham started the weekend in the bottom three of the Premier League but the pair have been eased for relegation after comprehensive away victories.

Palace, out to 7-2 for the drop, thumped ten-man Leicester 3-0 while the Hammers continued their fine start under David Moyes by beating Stoke by the same scoreline at the bet365 Stadium.

Betfair responded to Stoke’s defeat by cutting Mark Hughes from 5-4 to 4-11 to be the next top-flight manager to leave his job. The Potters are 11-4 to go down.

Huddersfield, another team prominent in the relegation betting, also enjoyed a successful road trip, beating Watford 4-1 at Vicarage Road.

The Terriers had been 4-1 for victory over the Hornets, who had Troy Deeney sent off in the first half, and Huddersfield are out to 5-2 for an instant return to the Sky Bet Championship.

At the other end of the table, Manchester City stretched their winning run in the league to 16 matches with a 4-1 win over Tottenham. Ilkay Gundogan, a 12-1 shot, scored first for City.

Goals were thin on the ground in the rest of the Premier League fixtures, with Arsenal beating Newcastle 1-0, Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso scoring the only goal against Southampton, and Burnley drawing 0-0 at Brighton, for whom striker Glenn Murray missed a penalty.

Championship strugglers Sunderland landed odds of 11-5 to claim a first home league win since last December, beating Fulham 1-0.
The top three in League One – Wigan, Shrewsbury and Blackburn – all won and Luton are two points clear in League Two after a 2-0 victory at Forest Green.
