Coleraine finished runners-up in the Northern Irish Premiership despite losing just one league game all season, but they can still lift some silverware by beating Cliftonville in the Irish Cup final.

The Bannsiders will be looking to make amends for last term’s 3-0 final defeat to Linfield with victory over the Reds, who last won the competition in 1979.

Cliftonville had a creditable season, finishing fifth in the Premiership, and they defeated semi-professionals Loughgall 4-1 in the semi-final, while Coleraine advanced to the final with a 3-1 win over Larne.

With just 31 goals conceded in the league, Coleraine boast one of Northern Ireland’s tightest defences, but they have been impressive going forward too, with Darren McCauley and Jamie McGonigle netting 33 goals between them.

McGonigle has been on the scoresheet in two of the four meetings Coleraine have had with Cliftonville this season, with his side winning three of them.

Coleraine look set to triumph again and secure a first Irish Cup title since 2003.
