Class acts St Mirren are closing in on title
Ladbrokes Football League
3pm Saturday
St Mirren have nearly wrapped up the Ladbrokes Championship and they can take a giant step closer to the title in the Highlands.
Jack Ross's side are 14 points clear of nearest rivals Livingston and it's only a matter of time before they can pop the champagne corks in Paisley.
They showed they are in no mood to let up when they crushed Dumbarton 5-0 at home in midweek and a trip to Inverness will hold no fears either.
With Lewis Morgan strolling this division before his move to Celtic next term and Cammy Smith and top scorer Gavin Reilly on top form, they have been the class act in their division.
Caley Thistle needed an injury-time winner to claim the Challenge Cup against Dumbarton last week, although they beat Dundee United in midweek too.
But they are stuck in limbo, surely safe from a relegation playoff yet too far off the pace for a promotion playoff place, and Saints should show why they are 32 points ahead of Inverness.
Their Renfrewshire rivals Morton can compound the pain of crisis club Dundee United at Cappielow.
The Tannadice team's problems seem to be going from bad to worse under Csaba Laszlo despite having, on paper at least, a squad who should be challenging leaders St Mirren.
Laszlo has brought in former United, Plymouth and Southampton boss Paul Sturrock as a coach and, while the club legend may be welcomed with open arms, it seems a strange move.
They have also snapped up Bilel Mohsni, the former Rangers defender who was last seen in Scotland delivering an impressive haymaker to Motherwell striker Lee Erwin after his side had been demolished 6-1 in a playoff.
It smacks of increasing desperation for a United side who are in real danger of missing the playoffs. Morton have been steady and consistent recently and nobody likes going to Cappielow.
Clyde appear to be a spectacular price to win at Peterhead.
The in-form Bully Wee are going like a steam train in a bid to reach the Ladbrokes League Two playoffs after five wins out of six, with David Goodwillie grabbing 25 goals this season.
Peterhead often struggle at their Balmoor Stadium, losing five times there this season, and the odds seem an insult to Clyde.
