Championship relegation predictions
Championship survival should be easier to achieve than usual because basement boys Derby look relegation certainties, but there may still be scope for a surprise contender and the trap-door could open for Birmingham, who seem no nearer to solving their long-term problems.
Birmingham started the season with plenty of optimism and gave their fans a massive boost with the high profile summer signing of well-known Bluenose Troy Deeney from Watford.
However, manager Lee Bowyer had wanted to do more business during the summer and spoke of broken promises after results took a turn for the worse.
An injury crisis has exposed a lack of depth in Birmingham's squad and a weekend 4-0 loss at Blackburn was an especially tough result.
Birmingham still have an eight-point cushion to the bottom three but they are playing poorly and that will need to change over the Christmas and New Year period when they face crucial home games against fellow strugglers Peterborough and Barnsley. If they fail to win either of those, Bowyer's Blues could be dragged into serious trouble.
Peterborough are odds-on for the drop and need to start picking up some better away results to have a decent chance of survival.
They have lost 11 of 12 on the road and but their forthcoming trip to Birmingham looks a winnable game which could give them the springboard they need to mount a surge towards safety.
