Team news
Sevilla
Jesus Corona is sidelined but left-back Marcos Acuna returned from a domestic suspension in Saturday's defeat to Barcelona.
Manchester City
Kalvin Phillips is a doubt and defenders John Stones, Kyle Walker and Aymeric Laporte are injured. Centre-back Manuel Akanji could make his debut after signing from Borussia Dortmund.
Match preview
Manchester City's 2022-23 Champions League campaign starts in Spain, where their bid for European glory last season ended in dramatic fashion against Real Madrid.
City will be even more determined to land the trophy for the first time after they blew a 5-3 aggregate lead going into injury time in their semi-final second leg against Real and bookmakers are taking few chances with Pep Guardiola's men.
The Premier League champions are as short as 9-4 to lift the trophy before their Group G opener away to Sevilla, who were knocked out of the Europa League by West Ham last season and beaten 3-0 by Barcelona on Saturday.
Sevilla sold key defenders Diego Carlos and Jules Kounde during the summer and they have taken only one point from their first four matches in La Liga.
Losing to resurgent Barca was not a huge surprise but the Andalusians have also been beaten by Osasuna and promoted Almeria while Valladolid, another of this term's newcomers, took a point off them at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.
That does not bode well for a meeting with City, who scored 18 goals in six group matches last season and now have Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez among their attacking options.
The Citizens were frustrated in a 1-1 weekend draw at Aston Villa and may freshen up their defence for the trip to Seville but their attackers should be too sharp for the struggling hosts.
Sevilla left-back Marcos Acuna was booked ten times in 26 league starts last term and sent off against Valladolid in August so he looks worth backing to end up in more trouble against City's fleet-footed forwards.
Key stat
Sevilla's last eight home defeats in the Champions League all featured over 2.5 goals.
