Lyon v Juventus match preview

Winning Serie A is not looking as straightforward as it has been in recent seasons for Juventus and being kept on their toes domestically by Lazio and Inter could benefit their Champions League campaign.

Juve were dealt one of the softest draws in the competition's last 16 but are perhaps less likely to allow complacency to set in given each of their Serie A fixtures have become must-win assignments.

They were among the strongest sides in the group stage, winning five and drawing one of their six games to top a challenging section, which featured Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Lokomotiv Moscow.

Lyon, meanwhile, progressed as runners-up from a mediocre group made up of RB Leipzig, Benfica and Zenit with only two successes.

The French outfit have not been setting Ligue 1 alight either, languishing in seventh spot with the same number of points as Reims, Montpellier, Nice and Nantes.

There has been a slight upturn in results since Sylvinho was replaced with experienced Rudi Garcia in the dugout in October but there is still a noticeable gulf in class between Lyon and Juventus and the hosts are not helped by the absence of a key player.

Memphis Depay scored five goals in the Champions League group stage but has been sidelined with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, meaning Lyon have becoming increasingly reliant on youngster Moussa Dembele in the final third.

Juventus, meanwhile, have a fearsome range of attacking quality in Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain, who have 44 goals between them in all competitions, to complement their renowned defensive resolve.

Only one of Juve's six group-stage assignments featured more than three goals and the nature of a knockout clash points to a low-scoring affair which the Italians can edge at the Groupama Stadium.

Key stat

Lyon have won once in their last five Ligue 1 games.
