Lions have power to maul the Bengals
Titans could struggle against mean Rams defence
Best handicap bet
Detroit -3 at Cincinnati
Winning is the only thing that is good enough for Detroit in their last two games, but it has become a foreign concept for the crumbling Bengals and the NFC North outfit should get the result they need.
Detroit have won five of their last seven games and although the only top-notch scalp they have claimed was that of the Vikings in Week Four, Cincinnati are no better than the sides the Lions have beaten.
The Bengals are also in their worst form of the season having tamely folded in their last two games to lose 33-7 to Chicago and 34-7 in Minnesota last week. Quarterback Andy Dalton managed just 113 passing yards against the Vikings – the fifth time in their last nine games that he has failed to reach 155 yards.
There is a chance that this could be Marvin Lewis’s final home game in charge of Cincinnati and it would be no surprise if the team chose to change direction after this tepid campaign.
Lions wide receiver Marvin Jones is in fine spirits as he returns to face his old team and has established a great connection with quarterback Matt Stafford, hauling in passes of 38 yards or more in their last four games.
Both sides have poor rushing offences and while the Bengals could get rookie Joe Mixon back after concussion, Theo Riddick has an ideal chance to make his mark for the Lions in a game in which the visitors should give their all.
Best totals bet
Under 20.5 Tennessee points v LA Rams
Tennessee’s challenge in the AFC South has faded disappointingly and their run-in could not be much less attractive with the fierce defences of the LA Rams and Jacksonville closing out their campaign.
They look worth backing to fail to reach 21 points at home to the Rams after some mediocre offensive performances.
Quarterback Marcus Mariota has had hamstring and shoulder injuries this season and hasn’t been at his best all year.
The Rams battered Seattle last time out and have beaten up much stronger offences than the Titans’ this season.
Best player bet
D Lewis to score a touchdown
Dion Lewis is becoming an increasingly important factor in New England’s offence and the speedy running back should be at the heart of the action again when they face Buffalo.
The Patriots need to beat the Bills and Jets to secure top seeding for the AFC playoffs and with Rex Burkhead ruled out Lewis should get plenty of carries and also be involved in the passing game.
For that reason, punters may also want to get long of Lewis’s combined rushing and receiving yards.
