Rugby union's Premiership is expected to be suspended for the foreseeable future because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Premiership Cup final – due to be played between Sale and Harlequins on Sunday – was postponed and this weekend’s league fixtures are also likely to be called off after a meeting of Premiership clubs on Monday.

Exeter top the table with nine rounds of matches remaining before the semi-finals and final, which is scheduled to be held at Twickenham on June 20.

Monday's National League North match between Gloucester City and King’s Lynn has been postponed.

Five matches are due to be played in the National League on Tuesday night but the league’s chief executive officer Michael Tattersall said on Saturday that “the continuation of the season is under constant review”.

Valencia’s Argentinian defender Ezequiel Garay is one of five players and staff at the Spanish club to test positive for coronavirus.

La Liga had been suspended on Thursday after one of Real Madrid’s basketball team, who use the same training complex as the club’s footballers, tested positive.
