Team news
Dinamo Zagreb
Skipper Arijan Ademi is fit but summer signing Bosko Sutalo is expected to be out for at least six months.
Chelsea
The Blues are set to be without N'Golo Kante but deadline day arrivals Denis Zakaria and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be involved in some capacity. Thiago Silva is rested.
Match preview
Chelsea have made an unconvincing start to the new Premier League season and Thomas Tuchel’s team may not have things all their own way in their Champions League opener at Dinamo Zagreb.
With Milan and Salzburg also housed in Group E, Chelsea will be expected to triumph against the section’s minnows in the Croatian capital and are short odds to make a winning start.
But Premier League defeats away at Leeds and Southampton should be enough to scare off Chelsea backers, especially as Dinamo Zagreb are in confident mood and notoriously strong at home.
The hosts are already eight points clear at the top of the Croatian HNL having won seven and drawn one of their opening eight games and they beat Sevilla at home in the knockout stages of last season’s Europa League.
Dinamo Zagreb's problem is defensively.
Despite their domestic dominance, they have conceded in all eight league matches, while also conceding in five of their six Champions League qualifiers.
Chelsea should therefore out their attacking quality to good use, but they too have looked defensively suspect so far this season with no clean sheet in five and nine goals leaked over that period.
Therefore it may pay to expect an entertaining encounter at Stadion Maksimir and at a shade of odds-on both teams to score is the value.
Chelsea drew 3-3 at Zenit and won 2-1 at Lille in last season's group stage and, with them expected to grow into the competition, this is another game on their European travels that could yield goals.
Key stat
Both teams have scored in four of Chelsea's last five matches.
