Match preview
Tottenham have little more than revenge to play for at the Allianz Arena and under-strength Spurs are unlikely to salvage their pride against Bayern Munich in matchday six of the Champions League.
The humiliation of losing 7-2 at home to Bayern definitely seemed to damage Spurs for a while and their subsequently sacked manager Mauricio Pochettino, although they recovered to secure a last-16 berth before this difficult Munich mission.
Now under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, Spurs have eyes only for Sunday's trip to Molineux to take on Wolves before a crunch London derby with Chelsea, and the former Blues boss has made no secret of his priorities.
Before bashing Burnley 5-0 Mourinho said he would rest Harry Kane and name-checked Kyle Walker-Peters, Ryan Sessegnon, Oliver Skipp and Irish starlet Troy Parrott as among those who can expect a run-out as many first-teamers are given the night off.
There had also been a question put to Mourinho of whether he would stay behind to prepare the side for Premier League battles, but that would have shown complete contempt for the Champions League.
Expect the selected Spurs side to be hungry enough to impress but also outclassed and Bayern can dominate from the early exchanges.
There is some quality in reserve in Giovani Lo Celso and Christian Eriksen but other areas of the Spurs side look weak in comparison. Squad depth is absent in defence and they will lack a true leader of the line without Kane starting.
Bayern, the only outfit with a 100 per cent record in this season's Champions League, are already assured of top spot in the section and therefore a perceived easier first tie in the knockout stage, so caretaker coach Hansi Flick will also be tempted to ring the changes.
However, there will also be an obligation to perform in front of the Munich locals and bounce back from the disappointment of losing Saturday's top-of-the-table clash at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Bayern have won 16 of their last 17 Champions League matches and if Flick wants to keep his interim role beyond the German winter break he could do without another shock loss.
Benjamin Pavard, Ivan Perisic, Javi Martinez, Philippe Coutinho and Serge Gnabry, scorer of four goals in the reverse fixture, were on the bench at the weekend and would be classy operators to bring on should Flick want to switch the side around.
Spurs don't travel particularly well anyway - they have won only four of 14 away Champions League group-stage encounters - and Bayern will see this as a perfect opportunity to add to their 21-goal tally in this season's competition.
Key stat
Jose Mourinho's five games as Tottenham manager have produced 24 goals.
