Team news
Bayern Munich
Bayern will be without long-term absentees Corentin Tolisso, Alphonso Davies, Leon Goretzka and Manuel Neuer. Thomas Muller returned on Saturday and should be in from the start.
Salzburg
Noah Okafor and Oumar Solet both started the first leg but are set to miss out here, joining a lengthy injury list that includes Sekou Koita, Ousmane Diakite, Bryan Okoh, Albert Vallci, Benjamin Sesko and Jerome Onguene.
Match preview
Bayern Munich needed a 90th-minute equaliser to escape from the first leg of this tie against Salzburg with the scores level and should be wary of their Austrian opponents' attacking abilities once more.
Salzburg were competing in their first Champions League knockout tie but gave a good account of themselves against the six-time winners.
The pace of youngsters Chukwubuike Adamu, Brenden Aaronson and Karim Adeyemi caused Bayern’s defence real problems, particularly on the counter.
Those three could well have put themselves in the shop window and Adeyemi in particular has been linked consistently with a summer move to the Bundesliga.
Good performances from Manuel Neuer’s replacement Sven Ulreich and his counterpart Phillip Kohn kept the score to 1-1 in a match that really should have produced more goals.
The removal of the away goal rule from European football this year means that Bayern have no real advantage going into the second leg.
Both sides have picked up two wins and a draw in their three league games since the first encounter and retain comfortable leads at the top of their domestic tables.
The home side are short enough in this second leg at 1-6 and there’s not much more juice in the price for top goalgetter Robert Lewandowski getting on the scoresheet at 1-4.
The search for value in the goals market is also a tricky one, with the layers making four or more goals in the game an odds-on shot.
Bayern are obviously a dominant attacking force but have been somewhat blunt in recent matches by their high standards. Having netted at least twice in nine of their previous ten games, the German champions have failed to score more than one in three of their last four.
One option in this tie is the shots market.
Despite only netting twice, the pair shared 33 shots in the first leg and 11 of Bayern’s last 12 matches have seen 28 or more attempts at goal.
With Salzburg likely to set up to be as compact as possible and look to hit Bayern on the counter attack, expect the home side to take plenty of shots from range.
The Austrians will also be more than happy to try their luck in their infrequent forays into the Bavarians’ half and may be forced to go on the front foot if they fall behind, leaving themselves open at the back.
And although a home win looks assured, it's worth backing the Austrian visitors to get on the scoresheet as their dynamic forward line cannot be underestimated.
