Match preview

Nottingham Forest have an excellent record against the top clubs in the Sky Bet Championship but their habit of slipping up against the league's lesser lights is threatening to derail their promotion challenge.

Just in the last month, Forest have won at Brentford, beaten Leeds 2-0 at the City Ground and held leaders West Brom to a 2-2 draw at The Hawthorns.

However, defeats away to Birmingham and at home to Charlton, as well as Saturday's disappointing goalless draw with QPR, mean they are desperate for three points at Cardiff.

Sixteen teams have visited the Bluebirds in the league this season and only one of them, Bristol City, came away with a victory so Forest may have their work cut out.

Influential midfielder Samba Sow is likely to miss out through injury and top scorer Lewis Grabban hasn't found the net in his last five appearances.

Neil Harris's Cardiff had been unbeaten in seven league games before Saturday's surprise defeat at struggling Stoke and they have enjoyed their meetings with the top clubs this season.

They beat title favourites West Brom 2-1 on January 28, having come from 3-0 down to pinch a point away to Leeds in December.

Cardiff are bidding to complete the double over Forest after Nathaniel Mendez-Laing scored the only goal of the reverse fixture at the end of November but the draw looks the best value.

Seven of the Bluebirds' 16 home league games have ended all-square, including clashes with top-six sides Fulham and Preston, and another tight contest looks likely.

Key stat

Cardiff have lost only one of their 16 home league games.
