Team news

Cardiff City
Harry Wilson overcame a hip problem to start the 3-0 victory at home to Barnsley on Tuesday but Jordi Osei-Tutu (hamstring), Filip Benkovic (hip) and Lee Tomlin (groin) missed out.

Bristol City
Andreas Weimann, Alfie Mawson (both knee) are out long-term and Nathan Baker, Steven Sessegnon (both hamstring), Liam Walsh and Joe Williams (both thigh) are also sidelined.

Match preview

Cardiff and Bristol City traded 1-0 victories last season with each winning at the other's home ground, but this week's Severnside derby could be a more lively affair.

Both teams to score has been a winning bet in five of Bristol City's last seven matches and it looks a value wager for the Robins' trip to the Welsh capital because neither side is likely to settle for a share of the points.

The contest offers hosts Cardiff a chance to chalk up back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Bluebirds boss Neil Harris switched to a 4-4-2 formation for Tuesday's fixture at home to Barnsley – pairing centre-forwards Kieffer Moore and Robert Glatzel for the first time this season – and it worked a treat with Cardiff running out comfortable 3-0 winners.

Wingers Harry Wilson and Junior Hoilett were among the goalscorers and Cardiff produced nine shots on target, their highest tally all season.

Harris will be reluctant to tinker with such a successful formula but an attacking philosophy carries greater risks against Bristol City, who are more of a threat than Barnsley.

City have collected ten points from five away games, including Tuesday's 2-1 success at Huddersfield which lifted them back into the top six.

City's substitutes did the damage at Huddersfield with Antoine Semenyo setting up the equaliser for Jay Dasilva and Jamie Paterson tucking home the winner.

Semenyo and Paterson could be in line for starts and their pace and movement could be key elements of an interesting contest with potential for plenty of goalmouth action.

Key stat

Both teams have scored in five of Bristol City's last seven fixtures.
