Betting preview
Borussia Monchengladbach stunned Bundesliga champions Bayern as they came from two goals down to record the most unlikely of victories last weekend, and Marco Rose’s men are worth backing to follow up at Stuttgart on Saturday.
That beating of Bayern was a second league win on the spin for Gladbach after they started 2021 with a 1-0 success at Arminia Bielefeld, and they may be able to kick on now they can focus solely on domestic matters until February’s Champions League return.
The Foals sit seventh in the Bundesliga having won only six of their 15 league games this season, but their heroics in Europe’s elite competition highlights they are better than their current league position.
Gladbach joined Real Madrid in the Champions League knockout stages from Group B, qualifying at the expense of Inter and Shakhtar - they beat the Ukrainians by an aggregate score of 10-0 across two meetings.
It is no coincidence that Gladbach’s league results suffered as they battled for a place in the Champions League last 16, but they are a classy side with a lot of attacking quality and may make hay now.
Gladbach, who have Jonas Hofmann and Lars Stindl supporting Alassane Plea, have scored three or more in six of their last 12 league matches and that firepower may be too much for Stuttgart to handle.
Stuttgart have made a solid start in their first season back in the Bundesliga, but they are one of only three teams yet to register a home league win and they are also yet to celebrate a clean sheet at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
Pellegrino Matarazzo’s men have drawn four and lost three of their opening seven home assignments. Bayern and Leipzig have both been successful in Stuttgart, and Gladbach look likely to follow in their footsteps.
Serie A relegation is looking more ominous for second-bottom Parma, who look set for a sixth straight defeat at Sassuolo on Sunday.
Losses to Juventus, Atalanta and Lazio can be excused but Parma’s poor run has also featured defeats against relegation rivals Crotone and Torino, who sit either side of them in the table.
Parma’s winless run stands at eight and the goals have dried up - they have fired blanks in six of those league fixtures.
With only five points collected and 20 goals conceded in eight away games this season, Roberto D'Aversa must be fearing the worst for his men against a Sassuolo side who sit seventh and are still in touch with the top four.
Results have been more inconsistent for Sassuolo in recent weeks, but they have won two of their last three home league games against Benevento and Genoa and won’t get many opportunities as clear cut as this one.
