Brisbane barely laid a glove on Melbourne City on matchday one of the new A-League season last week and they could struggle to land a blow against Adelaide too.

John Aloisi will no doubt be delighted to get his team back on Brisbane soil as 25 of their 42 points last term came at home, but the Roar managed just one shot on target in last week's loss.

They had a lot of possession in the final third without a cutting edge and that's no surprise seeing as Jamie Maclaren, scorer of 37 goals in the past two seasons, left for Darmstadt in the summer.

Winger Tommy Oar also departed and is now plying his trade in the Champions League for Cypriot side Apoel and it may take time for Aloisi's new recruits to bed in.

Massimo Maccarone was the big-name arrival but at 38 the Italian now has veteran status and the same can be said of 35-year-old Fahid Ben Khalfallah, who joined from Melbourne Victory.

Big things were expected of Eric Bautheac although the Lille man has been unable to feature because of visa problems and Adelaide, under new coach Marco Kurz, look a tough team to break down.

United had the better of the game in a 1-1 draw at Wellington and are also through to the cup semi-finals.

Recommendation
Adelaide +0.25 on Asian handicap
