Bohemians are worth backing at champs Cork City

Some of the outsiders in this weekend's round of games in the SSE Airtricity League look well worth backing, starting with Bohemians in the televised game against Cork City.

The champions have been pretty unimpressive this season, although they can point out that they have a very healthy 25 points from 11 games. They didn't look great in collecting 1-0 home wins over the past week against St Patrick's and Sligo Rovers.

In Bohemians, they face a decent side at Dalymount. Bohs shocked Shamrock Rovers last week and they have exciting young players who should only improve in Dylan Watts, Eoghan Stokes, JJ Lunney and Darragh Leahy. Cork have been hitting the ball long more than might be expected and Bohs should get on the ball plenty.

Derry City are arguably the form side in the league after seven straight wins. However, they have yet to face either Cork or Dundalk, so playing against the latter at Oriel Park will be revealing.

If the title race is not to be another two-horse war, Derry may need to get at least a draw, but they are well capable of troubling Dundalk, whose defence is not as good as their goals concession record suggests.

Like Bohs, Derry have lots of young players and they are getting better with experience. They are not reliant on Rory Patterson up front, since they have lots of threatening players coming from midfield, a bit like Dundalk. The odds look to underestimate Derry.

Bray Wanderers would have been around 20-1 to beat Waterford if this game were two weeks ago but times change quickly and Wanderers will fancy their chances of upsetting the hosts at the RSC.

There are two reasons to back Bray. Firstly, they are far better since Dave Mackey resigned, and secondly, Waterford are missing four players because of suspension and top defender Kenny Browne through injury.

Blues were dodgy defensively in losing to St Pat's on Monday, while Bray shocked Shamrock Rovers and are clearly on the up.

The Hoops are blessed to face lowly Limerick as they reflect on having lost half of their 12 games, while the odds about Sligo and St Patrick's, who meet at the Showgrounds, seem right.
