Mariners set to sink Spireites’ Cup hopes
Chesterfield v Grimsby
2pm Sunday
The pressure is building on Chesterfield manager Martin Allen and Mad Dog may be barking up the wrong tree if he thinks a run in the FA Cup can save him.
The Spireites are stalemate specialists, drawing each of their last nine National League fixtures, and it is quite bizarre that they have gone 12 matches unbeaten in all competitions while going without a win in their last 19 fifth-tier fixtures.
There was some respite in the first round of the FA Cup as Chesterfield took out Billericay at the second attempt, but they were terrible in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Bromley when sections of the crowd demanded Allen's departure.
If Grimsby can deal with the physical threat of big striker Tom Denton they should have the quality to come out on top.
Grimsby put five past Tranmere last time out, the result being the crowning glory of a real upturn in performances with a draw at Northampton and win over Crawley their other notable league showings.
The Mariners also put MK Dons out of the FA Cup in round one and a repeat of that performance should be good enough to put them in the draw for the third round.
Recommendation
Grimsby draw no bet

Feyenoord v PSV
1.30pm Sunday
It's 13 Eredivisie wins in a row for PSV Eindhoven and they can maintain those standards away to Feyenoord.
Most league matches are a stroll for PSV, but they even managed to win the most difficult one, against Ajax, 3-0 so Mark van Bommel's outfit really should be aiming to outclass the Rotterdammers.
PSV showed up brilliantly against Barcelona despite a 2-1 loss in the Champions League on Wednesday and they have a lively front three in Luuk de Jong, Hirving Lozano and Steven Bergwijn.
Feyenoord have lost just one of their last 14 matches in all competitions but that was the only time they stepped up in class for a 3-0 thrashing at Ajax last month.
Recommendation
PSV draw no bet

Eintracht Frankfurt v Wolfsburg
1.30pm Sunday
PSV have a potent front three and so too do Eintracht Frankfurt with Sebastien Haller, Luka Jovic and Ante Rebic shooting them up to third in the Bundesliga thanks to 23 goals between the tremendous trio.
Sizzling Frankfurt have won six of their last seven league games and in each of the last three they have managed to score three goals.
Adi Hutter has settled in well as coach since replacing Niko Kovac and Wolfsburg, stuck in mid-table after a couple of scrapes with relegation, have a goal difference which is 16 inferior to the hosts.
Recommendation
Eintracht Frankfurt

Plays of the day
Banker
Eintracht Frankfurt 19-20
Maybe Eintracht won't be able to last the Bundesliga pace but they have a front three who are scoring goals for fun and that offensive power should be too much for Wolfsburg.
Blowout
Liverpool 2-5
A derby dust-up with Everton is hardly ideal after Liverpool were turned over by Paris St-Germain on Wednesday and the improving Toffees may make life tricky for the Reds.

Nottingham Forest 4-6, Sunderland 11-10, Manchester Utd 7-8, Eintracht Frankfurt 19-20 Betway

Thought for the week
Mark Hughes was not a happy chappy after Southampton were knocked out of the EFL Cup at Leicester on Tuesday, particularly as Saints were denied a goal by VAR.
"We've had a perfectly good goal chalked off by VAR," he told Sky Sports. It doesn't matter if it's judged by video or by the referee. The referee, in fairness to him, actually said if it wasn't for VAR, he would have given it because it happened so quickly.
"If the guys behind the screen looking at a situation slow it down to nth-degree, then something that is not deliberate in real time then looks deliberate when it is not.
"From our point of view, it is a valid goal that should have stood and we should've won the tie. I suppose the more the system is used the better it will get."
The system won't get any better. This is the system and it was the system Southampton were calling for just a couple of weeks ago after a controversial goal was disallowed against Watford.
