FC Slutsk v Slavia Mazyr preview

It was a 0-0 draw when these sides last met at the City Stadium in October and something equally tight is envisaged when they cross swords again to kick off their 2020 Belarus Premier League seasons.

The fact that Slutsk didn’t score in that match won’t come as a huge surprise – they were not prolific in 2019 with just 26 goals scored in their 29 games.

And they were on a poor run at the time, going eight without a win before signing off the campaign with a victory.

Slavia were slightly better in front of goal but were slow-starters – they haven’t scored a first-half goal in any of their last ten matches.

Slutsk seem to have been more positive in the close season with a handful of interesting signings, among them Burkina Faso striker Dramane Salou – or Drama as they call him – from top-flight Ukrainian League outfit Olimpik Donetsk.

New midfielder Alan Koroev was a product of the CSKA Moscow academy and is still finding his way.

Five of the last seven Premier League matches between these sides have ended in draws and they could on their way to another.

Belshina Bobruisk v FC Minsk preview

Not a single member of last year’s top four produced wins on the opening weekend of the Belarusian Premier League, which should encourage promoted Belshina to believe change is in the air.

Bate Borisov, Shakhtyor and Dinamo Minsk all lost, Minsk going down to another promoted side Rukh, while champions Dynamo Brest managed to snatch a draw against Smolevichy.

If the tide is turning, and if Rukh exemplify the quality of sides emerging from the First League, then Belshina look a decent price.

The Tyreworkers have had to rebuild their strike force following the exit of 26-goal top scorer Alexander Yushin and his veteran trusted sidekick Andrei Lyasyuk.

But boss Eduard Gradaboev has drafted in a raft of new faces and there was nothing wrong with their form in pre-season.

They conceded goals during their title triumph and both teams scored in each of their last eight league games.

But it’s hard to know if FC Minsk, who endured a disappointing mid-table campaign, have the tools in attack to dent the hosts. Their last five competitive matches produced just six goals.

The tide may not have completely turned in Belarus and punters who have seen so many favourites chinned already might want to swerve the jollies in this one.
