Be bullish and back Hereford in Southern Premier
Hereford's bid to secure an FA Cup third-round date with Leicester came to an end with a 2-0 loss at home to Fleetwood last Thursday but they are in the thick of the Southern Premier promotion race and look value to finish top of the pile.
The Bulls are searching for their third successive promotion but face some stiff competition with King's Lynn, Kettering, Slough, Weymouth (advised ante-post at 25-1) and Tiverton also in the title hunt.
Leaders King's Lynn have reached the halfway stage of the season with 51 points but their position looks vulnerable because three of their rivals – second-placed Kettering, fifth-placed Hereford and sixth-placed Slough – have played fewer matches.
Hereford are nine points off the summit but have played five fewer games than King's Lynn and have the best goal difference in the division.
They have continued to excel despite the distraction of their run to the FA Cup second round and, as by far the best supported club in the division, they should have the necessary funds to add to their squad in January.
The Northern Premier is shaping up as a head-to-head battle between leaders Altrincham (advised pre-season at 7-1) and second-placed Shaw Lane.
Alty, the market leaders, have a two-point lead but have played one game more than Shaw Lane.
Big-spending Billericay look like justifying their pre-season status as odds-on favourites in the Isthmian Premier.
The Essex outfit are second, three points behind Dulwich Hamlet but with five games in hand and have shortened to 1-12.
