Burnley and Watford started the season as second and fourth favourites for relegation from the Premier League but three points separate them after five games and the gap may widen with the Hornets fancied to triumph at Turf Moor this evening.

Expectations of a season of struggle for Burnley look like being borne out after they failed to add sufficient quality to their ranks in the transfer window.

The highlight has been the 2-0 success at home to Liverpool but it was a real backs-to-the-wall performance with Sean Dyche’s side losing the shot count 18 to three and mustering a meagre 20 per cent share of possession.
