Non-league outfit could be in for a difficult night

FA Cup first round
BBC2, 7.55pm Friday

Most neutrals cheer for the non-league outfit in the FA Cup and that will certainly be the case at Ewen Fields where the lowest-ranked team in the competition hosts MK Dons in the first round.

The Dons are arguably the most disliked of all the Sky Bet Football League teams but unfortunately for those who would love to see them fall victim to a giantkilling, that seems less likely than the odds suggest.

Hyde United of the Northern Premier Division One North – the eighth tier of football – have already hit the jackpot in getting their tie televised and the dream may not continue following qualifying victories over Kendal Town, Warrington, Boston Town and Scarborough.

This is obviously a huge jump in quality and the gulf may not be narrowed just because the Tigers have an artificial surface.

Milton Keynes have been using their own similar training pitch in preparation and, despite a dodgy spell in League One, will still expect to finish the campaign in the top half.

The Dons are winless in seven matches in all competitions and were horrendous in last week's 2-0 defeat at Bristol Rovers, a result which saw them slip to 16th in the table.

However, the surface should allow Milton Keynes to play their football and forward Chuks Aneke can grab the opening goal.

Aneke has started only three league games this season due to injury, but he scored against Walsall and there are few genuine threats with Osman Sow injured.

Kieran Agard is favourite in the first-scorer market but he was only on the bench last week so Aneke looks the man most likely to punish Hyde.
