Tunisia and Nigeria made the last four of the Africa Cup of Nations through contrasting styles of play and they could cancel one another out in the third-place playoff.

Nigeria came alive in the knockout phase, dispatching Cameroon and South Africa with their free-flowing football, but the Super Eagles lost their semi-final encounter with Algeria despite winning the shot count 11-8.

The Eagles of Carthage, meanwhile, have looked to their resolute rearguard for results, drawing four of their first five Afcon assignments before taking Senegal to extra-time in their last match.

A peculiar 100th-minute own goal from Dylan Bronn brought their run to an end and they have been far from the most enterprising team in the tournament, with their only triumph coming against debutants Madagascar in the quarter-finals.

However, they should be confident of frustrating Nigeria who, for all their pace and dynamism in the final third through Odion Ighalo and Alex Iwobi, lack a game-changing playmaker in midfield.

It can be a struggle to muster the motivation for a third-place playoff and, given how close both sides came to making the final, they could play out an uninspiring stalemate.
