Charlton v Peterborough

League One promotion hopefuls Peterborough have lost four league matches in a row for the second time this season, but they can beat any third tier side on their day and appear overpriced to see off struggling Charlton at the Valley

The Posh are a streaky side, who must be testing the patience of head coach Grant McCann.

Losing sequences are not exactly a recipe for success but if anyone can turn the Posh into a winning machine it could be their 42-year-old gaffer, who is ten months into a second spell in the Peterborough dugout.

McCann steered Hull to the League One title in 2020-21 despite significant budget restrictions and has not given up on Peterborough's promotion push.

A 16-day break has given McCann some time to work on the training field and iron out some of the wrinkles from what was a pretty decent performance in a 2-1 loss at Ipswich last time out.

Posh played well at Portman Road and certainly have the firepower to expose 18th-placed Charlton, who are preparing for their first match under new manager Dean Holden.

Charlton have an EFL Cup quarter-final trip to Manchester United to look forward to in January but Holden will be more concerned about steering them away from relegation trouble.

The Londoners have taken two points from their last six fixtures and have managed just five victories in 21 league games.

They should have enough quality to survive but their poor run could be extended by a Peterborough side anxious to re-ignite their playoff push.

Burton v Lincoln

Lincoln's build up to Christmas Day was marred by a 2-1 loss at Southampton in the EFL Cup fourth round but they can give their supporters some festive cheer by defeating League One rivals Burton at the Pirelli Stadium.

It has been a solid opening 20 games for the mid-table Imps, who are seven points adrift of the playoff places and seven clear of the bottom four.

They would rather be looking up in the new year and have a decent chance to take three points from second-bottom Burton, who have been stuck in the drop zone since losing their first two matches of the season.

Burton have been more competitive in recent months but they have failed to win any of their last seven league fixtures and a setback could be on the cards against the Imps, who have registered four of their six league wins away from home.

Salford v Barrow

The battle for League Two playoff places is getting tight and ninth-placed Salford can win a key skirmish by overcoming sixth-placed Barrow at Moor Lane.

Salford advanced to the EFL Trophy quarter-finals on Tuesday by recording a 1-0 victory at home to League One Port Vale and they seem to be playing well enough to overcome out-of-sorts Barrow, who are clinging on to a playoff place.

Barrow have been beaten in three of their last four league games, including a 5-0 hammering at Stevenage, and are unlikely to pick up any points against Salford, who are targeting a fourth successive victory.

Tranmere v Doncaster

Doncaster have moved into League Two's top ten by winning three of their last five league fixtures and they should at least avoid defeat when taking on mid-table Tranmere at Prenton Park.

Both teams are aiming to challenge for a playoff spot but Donny have looked the more convincing in recent weeks.

Tranmere's small squad has been blighted by injuries and suspensions and a lack of confidence was evident when they lost 2-1 at Grimsby last time out.

Micky Mellon's side have gone ten games without a victory and their winless run could continue.

First scorer

Joao Pedro Watford v Millwall
at 13-2 bet365

Joao Pedro has scored all of Watford's last four goals and the confident Brazilian looks a probable deadlock-breaker against Millwall.
