Steve Lennon v Madars Razma

Head-to-head: Lennon leads 1-0

The second day of William Hill World Championship actions kicks off with a cracker between Steve Lennon and Madars Razma.

There's little between these players, but on the Alexandra Palace stage you'd have to fancy Lennon. Nerves often get the better of Razzmatazz and he was beaten 3-0 by Harry Ward on his World Championship debut two years ago.

The Latvian won 3-0 in the first-round last year, but all three sets went 3-2 and that was against an opponent well below the calibre of Lennon.

Scott Mitchell v Chris Landman

Head-to-head: no previous meetings

One player who thrives on the big occasion is 2015 BDO World Champion Scott Mitchell.

Scotty Dog has been performing well on the floor this season, since winning his Tour Card in February, and he is inside the top 40 in terms of three-dart averages.

Chris Landman made the quarters at Lakeside last year, but his numbers on the Challenge Tour are pretty mediocre and the Dorset man looks handicap value.

Chas Barstow v John Norman

Head-to-head: no previous meetings

Two Ally Pally debutants clash when Chas Barstow takes on John Norman. The Canadian is a solid performer but he is likely to come up short if Barstow handles the occasion.

The Winchester arrowsmith comes across as a level-headed thrower and he has certainly competed with credit in the Online Live League and at the recent Players Championship Finals. A shot at Michael van Gerwen awaits the winner.

William O'Connor v Danny Lauby

Head-to-head: no previous meetings

Danny Lauby showed that he is a capable performer when running Ryan Searle to a final set in the first round last year and he rocks up again having topped the CDC USA Tour rankings.

William O'Connor has run Gerwen Price and Daryl Gurney close in his last two visits to north London and he should win this clash.

Ryan Meikle v Fabian Schmutzler

Head-to-head: no previous meetings

Ryan Meikle produced a stunning 108.76 average when beating Dirk van Duijvenbode in the Players Championship Finals last month, and clearly a performance of that standard would win this opening-round clash. However, the Ipswich man has disappointed in two previous visits to Alexandra Palace and there's not much juice in the 2-5 on offer.

Fabian Schmutzler booked his spot with a second-place finish on the EU Development Tour Order of Merit and the 16-year-old looks to have a bright future.

Ron Meulenkamp v Lisa Ashton

Head-to-head: Meulenkamp leads 1-0

The best bet has been saved for the final match of the evening and at 11-5 it's hard to ignore the claims of Lisa Ashton. Fallon Sherrock has been leading the way for the ladies but it's worth remembering that the Lancashire Rose ran Adam Hunt close on the Ally Pally stage last year.

Ron Meulenkamp has only won three matches in five visits to the William Hill World Championship and the Bomb also lost in the first-round in two appearances at Lakeside. The Dutchman tends to beat himself when things aren't going according to plan and offers of 4-11 look far too short.
