Day one preview

Wales has no shortage of flag-bearers in the darting world and on Friday afternoon young Lewy Williams can do his country proud by seeing off Martin Schindler in round two of the UK Open.

Swansea-born Williams has started the year tidily enough with wins over opponents such as Dimitri van den Bergh and Steve Lennon in the first four floor events.

And the 20-year-old beat Dennis Nilsson and Krzyzstof Ratajski to reach the last 16 at the International Open at the weekend, succumbing to compatriot Jonny Clayton.

Schindler is the more experienced of the two but is consistently failing to fulfil his promise and is worth taking on.

Mickey Mansell has played four, lost four on tour this year which makes him vulnerable to young prodigy Jurjen van de Velde.

The Dutch 19-year-old, a Development Tour winner last year, has started that tier well again in 2022 – he had a 103-plus average against Josh Richardson – with an impressive legs-won percentage of 65.

Poland's Radek Szaganski won his PDC card in January and has settled in nicely on tour with four wins and a 90-plus average. He should be able to see off Dutch underachiever Wesley Plaisier.
