Sunday's betting preview

Raymond van Barneveld produced a stunning performance to defeat reigning Grand Slam champion Gerwyn Price 16-13 in the quarter-finals of this year’s competition and the Dutchman’s reward is a semi-final showdown against Michael Smith.

A year ago few would have expected Barney to make the last four of a major televised tournament not least because the five-time world champion came out of retirement in February.

It’s been a fantastic return to the big-time for van Barneveld, who has also recorded a group-stage victory over Price and a knockout triumph against Simon Whitlock.

Smith held his nerve to seal a final-leg 16-15 quarter-final victory over Joe Cullen and rattled in a 100 three-dart average in the process. However, Barney’s numbers have been pretty much on par with anything Bully Boy has managed in the tournament and it appears likely that this will be a closely contested semi-final.

It’s the best of 31 legs in Wolverhampton tonight and backing the contest to go over 27.5 games looks the play.
