Preview
Michael van Gerwen has made amends for last year's disaster and topped the Premier League table going into the playoffs – yet odds of 11-8 are hardly a ringing endorsement of the former world number one.
It wasn't long ago that Van Gerwen was odds-on to win entire tournaments – now he's odds-against to win just two matches.
The first of those is his semi-final against Jonny Clayton with the prize of taking on the winner of the second semi between Jose de Sousa and Nathan Aspinall in tonight's final.
Michael van Gerwen v Jonny Clayton
Night 9: Clayton 7-3 Van Gerwen
Night 11: Van Gerwen 8-5 Clayton
Take Jonny Clayton to prove that this Welsh man of steel has at least one more big game in him by taking him to topple Mighty Mike in the first semi.
Clayton demonstrated tungsten powers in Thursday night's winner-takes-all shootout with Dimitri van den Bergh, averaging a shade under 104 (without a single 180, note) in an 8-6 win. Nerves? How about nerveless judged on a checkout percentage of 57.
This is Clayton's debut campaign but he looks like the real deal and he knows how to beat Van Gerwen. He did it in this competition, he did it at The Masters, he did it at last year's Masters. There is no fear and the Welshman is well worth a bet at 13-8.
Jose de Sousa v Nathan Aspinall
Night 4: De Sousa 6-6 Aspinall
Night 16: Aspinall 3-8 De Sousa
Twenty-four hours after Jose de Sousa, Racing Post Sport's outright tip ante-post, demolished Nathan Aspinall in their final league game, back him to repeat the dose in the second semi.
De Sousa is odds-on and rightly so because he is simply playing better than The Asp, especially this week with Aspinall averaging around 95 and De Sousa just over a ton.
Take the 8-13 or go bolder and bet 19-20 that the Portuguese Man O'Scores can cover a 1.5 handicap. It's a race to ten legs and, on the evidence of Thursday night it, it would be a surprise if Aspinall can get anywhere near eight.
De Sousa looks as though he's loving every minute of it and his scoring power – he has set a tournament record for most 180s – means he can fend off any opponent.
