Night Three Preview

Nathan Aspinall, one of six players with a Premier League win under his belt after the first two nights of action, looks a massive price to pick up a second against James Wade.

The Asp was the only winner on Night One at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, averaging 97-plus to see off Glen Durrant in a repeat of last season's final.

Twenty-four hours later Aspinall probably played even better against Dimitri van den Bergh, averaging 98 to share the first ten legs before the Belgian hit overdrive for two legs to nick a 7-5 win.

Incredibly, though, and despite some pretty rock-solid numbers, you can still get 15-8 Aspinall against Wade, who is on one point after two matches.

Wade, a last-minute call-up for Gerwyn Price, kicked off his campaign nicely enough with a 6-6 draw against Gary Anderson but then didn't really turn up in a low-quality affair with Rob Cross, getting just eight sighters at a double and losing 7-4. If he gets only eight looks at a double against Aspinall then even allowing for The Machine's famed accuracy on the outer ring, he loses.

Another price that merits a second look is the 9-4 which has been parked next to the name Jose de Sousa. He's up against man of the moment Jonny Clayton.

The Ferret can do no wrong. Winner of January's Masters and another couple of floor events, Clayton's numbers are sparkling and he is already averaging over 100 after two rounds of matches.

But it may be too early to conclude that De Sousa, himself a major winner in the last 12 months, merits being written off, especially when he too is scoring well. He was a few missed doubles away from nicking a draw against Ando having shared the spoils with Cross in his opener.

He and Aspinall are certainly two outsiders to have a proper look at given we are only two nights into the competition.

Michael van Gerwen kicks off proceedings against Rob Cross and the Dutch former world No.1 and five-time Premier League champ does look a 4-6 shot. Van den Bergh is also playing well while his opponent, Duzza, is definitely struggling. But 4-9 the Belgian? No thanks.

The outstanding match is probably the tussle between Scotland's World Cup partners Peter Wright and Gary Anderson. Anderson is better placed in the standings by a couple of points although Snakebite is the 11-10 favourite, the layers presuming that his duffing up by Van Gerwen yesterday in a proper grudge match between two men who really don't get on, won't have any negative impact going forward.
