Night 12 betting preview

The top four in this year's Premier League pulled further clear of the pack last week but something's got to give in Dublin with a pair of top-of-the-table battles to savour.

Jonny Clayton, Premier League leader and tournament second favourite at 3-1, takes on third-placed Peter Wright at the 3Arena.

And Michael van Gerwen, 21-10 favourite to take the title for a record-equalling sixth time, will attempt to shackle this year's dark horse, James Wade.

Two of those four won’t score points tonight, offering much-needed hope to the stragglers who have got just five more nights to break into the playoffs, with Gerwyn Price taken to bear his teeth at last and get back in the race.

James Wade v Michael van Gerwen

Head-to-head: Van Gerwen leads 44-17

2022 Premier League: Van Gerwen 6-5 (W5); Wade 6-2 (W8); Van Gerwen 6-1 (W9); Van Gerwen 6-3 (W11)

James Wade and Michael van Gerwen meet for the fifth time in this year's Premier League with the Dutchman holding a 3-1 edge over the gutsy left-hander.

Wade is defying the odds in pushing for the playoffs and has successfully negotiated round one in each of the last four weeks.

However, seven days after they last met in an encounter which Van Gerwen won 6-3, it's not easy to go against the prices.

Given that he out-maxes Wade roughly two to one, Van Gerwen to win and hit the most 180s looks the best bet in this contest.

Gerwyn Price v Joe Cullen

Head-to-head: Cullen leads 8-6

2022 Premier League: Cullen 6-5 (W2); Cullen 6-3 (W8)

Gerwyn Price has had a terrible month or so with just one match win in the last five rounds, and he's clearly been hindered by a hand injury.

Fighting fit now, with a point to prove and points to pick up, expect to see him turn the formbook around against Joe Cullen, and his rivals, by beating Rockstar and going on to take the Night 12 spoils.

Michael Smith v Gary Anderson

Head-to-head: Anderson leads 14-10

2022 Premier League: Smith 6-1 (W5); Anderson 6-4 (W6)

It's going to take something pretty special for either of the bottom two to find a way into the top four but at least one of them can make some inroads into the deficit by winning their match in Dublin.

Michael Smith is 4-6 to prevail which is short enough for a player who hasn't won a match in his last five Premier League outings.

He seems to be feeling it and if Ando can put him under any sort of pressure, the Scot has to be the value bet.

Jonny Clayton v Peter Wright

Head-to-head: Wright leads 12-5

2022 Premier League: Wright 6-1 (W1); Clayton 6-5 (W5); Clayton 6-4 (W8); Clayton 6-5 (W11)

The final game of round one features a fifth meeting of the campaign between Jonny Clayton and Peter Wright, with Clayton going for four in a row against the Scot.

He pipped Wright 6-5 last week on his way to landing the spoils for a third time which means he and Van Gerwen are the only multiple winners of the new format with three wins apiece.

It looks like being a tight affair but if there is a bet to be had, perhaps it's Snakebite to hit the most 180s at 11-10.

Wright averages a 180 every 3.3 legs in the league, Clayton one every 3.5. On tour this year the margin is even wider, 3.0 to 4.5 in Wright's favour.
