Preview
World Championship favourite Michael van Gerwen returns to action on Tuesday to face Joe Cullen in the final match of the night. Van Gerwen, who shortened further in the outright betting after champion Peter Wright was eliminated on Sunday, has been in imperious form.
Gabriel Clemens, who defeated Wright in round three, toes the oche again in the second match of the evening session against Krzysztof Ratajski.
James Wade v Stephen Bunting
The opening match of the day should be won by James Wade, a three-time losing semi-finalist who has been playing well in the build-up to the tournament, but Stephen Bunting's scoring power may be enough to sneak a set.
The best way to support Wade may be with an each-way investment at 20-1 in the outright market - the draw has opened up wonderfully for the left-hander after Peter Wright's demise.
Daryl Gurney v Chris Dobey
Daryl Gurney was world number three less than 18 months ago, but has endured a disappointing season, and found the fake crowd noise annoying in his opening Ally Pally contest. He battled past William O'Connor, though, averaging a solid 99.19, and can build on that success by seeing off Chris Dobey.
Gurney has won his last four meetings against Dobey by an aggregate of 33 legs to 14 and after rediscovering his scoring power against O'Connor, the Northern Irishman can be fancied to bolster that strong head-to-head record.
Devon Petersen v Jason Lowe
Devon Petersen has taken his game to a new level on the PDC circuit this year and the African Warrior, like James Wade, Dave Chisnall and Michael van Gerwen, seems one to trust at short odds in any Tuesday accumulators.
Petersen won the German Darts Championship in September, averaging 102.75 in the final. Jason Lowe took advantage of an edgy Michael Smith in round two, but the pride of Cape Town will probably be less generous.
Dave Chisnall v Danny Noppert
Chizzy seems one of the strongest bets of the day. The two-time PDC World Championship quarter-finalist, who has beaten Phil Taylor on this stage, should carry far too much scoring power for Danny Noppert. The Dutchman had the lowest winning average in round two with 80.56 and could suffer a whitewash unless he improves dramatically.
Gabriel Clemens v Krzysztof Ratajski
The German Giant was superb against Peter Wright and is a tempting outsider against Krzysztof Ratajski. But Ratajski has an excellent record of success against Clemens, including three victories this year and a 5-0 whitewash on the PDC Home Tour in September, so no bet is the preferred tactic.
Michael van Gerwen v Joe Cullen
Joe Cullen beat Michael van Gerwen 8-5 in the final of the International Darts Open in October, but that was a different Van Gerwen to the version Cullen meets now. Mighty Mike was struggling by his high standards for much of the year, but a month after losing to Cullen in Germany, he won the Players Championship Finals in Coventry and has rediscovered his A-game.
Van Gerwen has been in sublime form in his first two matches and is looking increasingly like his old self again, nailing doubles under pressure and averaging 107.9. Winning a set would be a feather in Cullen's cap.
