Preview
William Hill World Championship punters can enjoy a six-match card on day ten of the tournament - and the closing contest stars Michael van Gerwen as he continues his bid for a fourth title.
Van Gerwen, imperious in a 3-1 victory over Ryan Murray in the second round, is a general 1-14 chance to defeat Ricky Evans. Mighty Mike, the 7-4 outright favourite, is due on stage around 8.15pm UK and Ireland time.
Krzysztof Ratajski v Simon Whitlock
The opening clash of the afternoon session is the only third-round match which features two players who averaged more than 100 in the second round. Krzysztof Ratajski enjoyed a 100.41 average in a 3-0 beating of Ryan Joyce, while Simon Whitlock needed 101.21 to edge Darius Labanauskas 3-2.
Whitlock can take great confidence from coming through such a tight match. And the Aussie, runner-up to Phil Taylor in 2010, has the experience and form to win another close contest. He has beaten Van Gerwen three times this year in some of the biggest events on the calendar, so is oozing self-belief.
Kim Huybrechts v Ryan Searle
This seems the toughest match to call on the coupon. Kim Huybrechts has been fantastic in rounds one and two, averaging 104.05 and 101.59, but he is notoriously inconsistent and Ryan Searle is a gutsy opponent. A long, tight, tetchy joust appears on the cards.
Dimitri van den Bergh v Jermaine Wattimena
DreamMaker, as Dimitri van den Bergh likes to be known, averaged 105.61 in a 3-0 crushing of Paul Lim in the second round and will be confident of accounting for regularly ragged Dutchman Jermaine Wattimena.
The short odds, though, are not worth risking in a single, given Van den Bergh can often go from the sublime to the ridiculous and is still carrying a knee injury. Victory can be expected, but the Belgian might make a meal of it.
Joe Cullen v Jonny Clayton
The bet of the day is arguably Joe Cullen at a shade of odds-on. The former youth star is finally threatening to realise his potential at the age of 31, winning the International Darts Open in October and making a strong start to his World Championship campaign.
Cullen, who defeated Michael van Gerwen 8-5 to win that IDO final, triumphed in a Players Championship event in Coventry last month. And he made the quarter-finals of the World Grand Prix in October, beating Jonny Clayton 3-2 in the second round. Cullen lost only three legs in his opening match on Tuesday.
Peter Wright v Gabriel Clemens
The odds dictate a small wager on Gabriel Clemens, who does not deserve to be dismissed against the world champion. Clemens, comfortable 3-1 winner over Nico Kurz in round two, has come of age in his late 30s and lost narrowly to Peter Wright in the final of the German Masters last year.
Michael van Gerwen v Ricky Evans
World number one Michael van Gerwen proved he is the man to beat this year when averaging 108.98 in his second-round meeting with Ryan Murray - and Mighty Mike should cruise past Ricky Evans with the minimum of fuss.
Murray played to the best of his abilities - and lost 3-1 averaging 95.14. Evans, who averaged 93.61 in his opening match, plays quickly and will help Van Gerwen get into his rhythm.
