Preview

Gary Anderson's third-round clash against Mensur Suljovic is the headline act at the Alexandra Palace and punters can expect a ding-dong battle.

Anderson's tournament appearances have been limited by a knee injury and Covid complications this season but the two-time world champion's class is there for all to see.

The Flying Scotsman still managed to make the final of the World Matchplay in July despite his limited activity this term and Anderson knocked in an 96.86 three-dart average in his second-round clash with Madars Razma

The Scot has played just 33 matches on the floor this term but he is performing at an excellent level, as a 97.71 average suggests.

However, Anderson takes on a quality operator in Suljovic, and on the evidence of the Gentle's 98.18 performance in the second round, this looks likely to be a close-run affair.

It's 8-13 that this match goes for at least six sets and that looks a more than fair price.

There's a sprinkling of short-priced favourites on today's Ally Pally card and Dirk van Duijvenbode can justify quotes of 1-3 in superb style.

The Titan is being asked to give Adam Hunt a 1.5-set start and at 4-6 that looks a solid bet.

The Dutchman has been in superb form this season, and he has been reward with quarter-finals in the Players and European Championships and a runners-up spot in the World Grand Prix.

Van Duijvenbode looked solid when beating former William Hill World Champion Rob Cross in round two and on the evidence of this season there could still be more to come.

Hunt has done well to beat Lisa Ashton and Jamie Hughes to reach this stage. However, his performances in those matches have been far better than what he usually produces on tour and there has to be a doubt about the Hunter keeping up those efforts against a top-quality operator.

Gerwyn Price was a little subdued in his 3-2 win over Jamie Lewis but the Iceman looks ready to freeze out Brendan Dolan.

Lewis is a capable performer, as he showed when beating Luke Woodhouse in round one and Price produced a professional performance against his fellow Welshman.

The Iceman is likely to raise the temperature, as the tournament moves to the latter stages and Dolan doesn't look likely to stop Price's progress.

The History Maker is capable of moments of brilliance but they have been few and far between this season.

The Enniskillen chucker lost in the first round of the World Matchplay, World Grand Prix and Players Championship Finals and he was beaten in his opening UK Open contest.

That record in major events doesn't suggest that Dolan will be able to keep tabs on Price and the Iceman can pull away for a convincing victory.
