Preview

World number one and world champion Peter Wright has forecast great things for Damon Heta and the Aussie can live up to that billing by landing the odds at the European Championship in Dortmund.

Wright was gushing about Heta's talent after losing to him in the final of the Gibraltar Championship, the last of 13 qualifiers for this PDC major.

Heta went on to reach three semi-finals in four days in last weekend's Pro Tour dust-ups in Barnsley, winning one of them.

There are eight first-round matches on Thursday night, with eight more on Friday, all over a best-of-11 legs before the competition, screened on ITV4, gets serious over the weekend.

A couple of 'upsets' in the loosest sense of the word could be on the cards with Martin Lukeman more than capable of bringing down Ryan Searle.

Bookmakers also rate Nathan Aspinall the slight outsider against the talented youngster Josh Rock, who is playing so well.

However, we'll only know once he's been under the lights on the big stage whether the 21-year-old can live up to the hype and recent Grand Prix finalist Aspinall is being seriously underrated in his opener.
