Part two of the World Series triple-header down under takes place in Wollongong, where Dimitri van den Bergh is worth an bet to win the New South Wales Masters.

Michael van Gerwen got over the line in last weekend's Queensland Masters with a competent enough display, averaging 92 across his four matches. That showed he's not lost that winning knack even when not at his sparkling best, but it also means he can be taken on.

It's the usual format – eight PDC stars from Europe, among them Fallon Sherrock, taking on eight local hopefuls, including the World Cup-winning duo of Simon Whitlock and Damon Heta. And Van den Bergh, winner of two of the four World Series events played this summer, is 9-2 to complete a hat-trick.

He opens up against Raymond O'Donnell and if he produced anything close to the 102 average he recorded in defeat to Joe Cullen in Townsville last Saturday, it will be more than good enough.

Dancing Dimitri is also in the perceived softer half of the draw – that's the section without Van Gerwen, Jonny Clayton or the two Aussies capable of going on a run, Whitlock and Heta.

There are a couple of potential round one upsets to look at.

First, James Wade is too short against Gordon Mathers. The Queenslander showed plenty of grit to beat Sherrock and Michael Smith en route to the semis in Townsville and can trouble Wade, who has been out of sorts.

And Sherrock is favourite against Mal Cuming despite little in the recent formbook to suggest she should be.
