Raymond van Barneveld tops the bill at Alexandra Palace on Monday, competing in the world championship for the penultimate time before his farewell season. Barney's rumble against either Matthew Edgar or Darius Labanauskas, who fight for the right to meet the Dutch star on Sunday night, will be the final game of the night.

V van der Voort v L Ilagan
It's difficult to know which Vincent van der Voort we will see. It could be the two-time William Hill World Championship quarter-finalist or we may get the injury plagued Dutchman who has produced little of note for the last two years.

Wins over Dave Chisnall and Steve Beaton at Ally Pally last year are a rare recent bright spot on the Dutchman's record and the Purmerend star does seem to save his best darts for the worlds. Van der Voort managed to beat Michael van Gerwen in a recent exhibition but the value of that form is obviously questionable.

His opponent Lourence Ilagan lost 6-1 to Daryl Gurney in the Shanghai Masters this summer, averaging 82.28 and hitting just one of ten finishing doubles. However, the Filipino flinger hit five 140s in that match and performed far better than those figures suggest.

The Gunner qualified via the Asian Tour and is predominantly a soft-tip thrower, but he hit five 180s and averaged 93.2 in a 5-4 win to qualify and it could pay to go over his maximum line in a game where he may get plenty of opportunities.

Recommendation
L Ilagan over 1.5 180s
1pt 5-6 bet365

W Jones v D Petersen
Devon Petersen has enjoyed some good moments on the Alexandra Palace stage and he could be set for another against Wayne Jones.

Petersen is a strong performer on his day as he showed when reaching the last 16 of the 2014 world championship. Dancing Devon hasn't managed to reach those heights since and the South African has lost in the first round for the last two years. However, he ran the capable Darren Webster to a deciding set last year and he has less on his plate against Jones.

The Wanderer returns to the blue riband event after a three-year break and is rated a narrow favourite for this clash. The Wolverhampton man is a solid thrower but he may need to be more than that against Petersen and he could struggle to find an extra gear.

Recommendation
D Petersen
1pt 6-5 general

R Joyce v A Dobromyslova
Lisa Ashton provided an early highlight of the tournament for many people with her sensational first-set win against Jan Dekker.

However, the Lakeside ladies world champion went out 3-1 and the layers are expecting the other women's qualifier Anastasia Dobromyslova to go the same way when she takes on Ryan Joyce.

Joyce is 2-13 shot to make it through to the second round and it's difficult to argue with that given the Newcastle thrower's form on the Pro Tour. Joyce is making his world championship debut and the uncertainty about how Relentless will handle the occasion is probably Dobromyslova's biggest hope.

Dekker was clearly uncomfortable in the early stages of his clash with Ashton.

Dobromysolva played in the main tournament in 2009, losing 5-3 to Remco van Eijden in the preliminary round.
