Friday's BDO World Championship preview

Scott Waites is getting away with a mixed bag of arrers at the BDO World Darts Championship in London but his luck may well run out when he takes on Scott Mitchell in the quarter-finals.

These two former champions have had distinctly different paths to the last eight.

For Mitchell it has been a breeze. The 2015 champion dropped just one set against teenager Leighton Bennett and didn’t lose any in a ruthless demolition of Michael Unterbuchner.

The Dorset farmer averaged just over 100 in the first set and never eased up in his 4-0 romp past the German.

For Waites, however, it has been far more of a grind.

The double champion blew hot and cold in beating veteran Martin Adams 3-2 in his opener and was then all but handed his second-round victory over Wes Harms courtesy of the Dutchman’s meltdown.

Harms, who had raced into a 2-0 lead, boasted 19 more ton-plus scores than the Yorkshireman but when he needed to hit doubles they suddenly deserted him.

Wayne Warren has looked better than anyone at the O2 this week and the Welsh veteran can reach his first semi-final by seeing off Chris Landman.
