What is the PDC Home Tour?

The PDC announced a new event to keep sport rolling during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Home Tour event starts on Friday April 17 and will be streamed on bookmaker websites and features a host of big names.

Each session starts at 7.30 and will see four stars do battle in nightly round-robin groups which are played over the best-of-nine legs. The 32 group winners will progress through to the next phase.

Bookmakers have been out to take on the group market leaders given a number of big names fell early on in the inaugural Home Tour event, but Simon Whitlock looks a fair price to oblige for favourite backers.

Aussie ace Whitlock has not been in the greatest of form, dropping down to 14 in the PDC ranking, but he is still well ahead of Group 11 rivals Kirk Shepherd, Alan Tabern and Mike van Duivenbode.

Whitlock was one of the first on the circuit to reveal he would be playing in this unique event, donating his fee to charity at the same time, and the relaxed atmosphere will hopefully suit the Wizard, who has reached the final of the BDO and PDC World Championship.

The 51-year-old lost a deciding leg battle to Gerwyn Price at the Masters in February and was taken out by the Welshman at the last-16 stage of the World Championship in December.

This is a step down in quality, although Tabern has done well enough to regain his Tour card and may be a bit of value in his individual matches.

Shepherd, a rank outsider when he reached the World Championship final in 2008, has not done much since and 21-year-old Van Duivenbode isn't easy to judge.
