What is the PDC Home Tour?

The PDC announced a new event to keep sport rolling during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Home Tour event starts on Friday April 17 and will be streamed on bookmaker websites and features a host of big names.

Each session starts at 7.30 and will see four stars do battle in nightly round-robin groups which are played over the best-of-nine legs. The 32 group winners will progress through to the next phase.

It is said that age is just a number and that adage can certainly be applied to 56-year-old darts legend Steve Beaton.

The silky, smooth Bronzed Adonis may be in his golden years on the oche but he is enjoying something of a renaissance at present.

Beaton reached the last 16 of the World Championship at Alexandra for the first time since 2004 in December and has accounted for multiple world champions Gary Anderson and Glen Durrant in Players' Championship events this year.

The veteran, and Wednesday's group favourite, has the advantage of having already sampled the world of remote darts too after he played in the second of two PDC at Home events which preceded the fully-fledged Home Tour.

However, so too does Matthew Edgar, who reached the last 32 of the UK Open in March.

Edgar beat group rival Callan Rydz in his Minhead run and could be Beaton's biggest threat for group honours.

Prime Time has lost three of his four matches against the 1996 BDO world champion but all have been close affairs with two reaching deciding legs.

He could go toe-to-toe with Beaton before confirming his superiority over Rydz in the penultimate match of the evening.

Carl Wilkinson is the other player in action for the session which starts at 7.30pm.
