What is the PDC Home Tour?

The PDC announced a new event to keep sport rolling during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Home Tour event starts on Friday, April 17 and will be streamed on bookmaker websites and features a host of big names.

Each session starts at 7.30 and will see four stars do battle in nightly round-robin groups which are played over the best-of-nine legs. The 32 group winners will progress through to the next phase.

That last 32 will be eight groups of four and the eight group winners will then play in two separate sections. The top two in each will provide the four-person Championship group which will determine the overall competition winner.

Fine margins denied Danny Noppert, John Henderson and Ryan Meikle a place in the next phase of the Home Tour marathon but they return on Friday to try to make amends.

The trio are joined in a fiendishly difficult section by debutant Cristo Reyes, who despite his inexperience of home-stage competition is no backmarker.

Bookmakers expect group honours to be contested by Noppert and Henderson - the two highest-ranked players on show - and preference is for the Highlander.

Former BDO World Championship runner-up Noppert missed out on top spot in Group 22 by virtue of a single leg but he didn't actually play that well on the night, averaging a touch over 85 in his three matches.

Henderson was also nowhere near the peak of his powers but as he has shown on numerous occasions down the years, when Big Hendo gets rocking the maximums usually follow.

The Scot's meeting with Noppert in the fourth contest may likely prove decisive and it looks set to go the distance.

Henderson has won two of the pair's three previous meetings with both going to at least a penultimate leg. A similar scenario could unfold as the Highlander storms into the next phase of Home Tour competition.
