Betting preview

Vincent Van der Voort capitalised on a lacklustre performance from Mensur Suljovic in the opening round of the European Championship, but the Dutch Destroyer may not find rising star Chris Dobey so ponderous on the outer ring.

Suljovic, who averaged only 88.41, converted just one of eight doubles and it was dull performance from a player who is usually a model of consistency.

That makes Van der Voort's 6-1 win slightly deceptive and it will take an improved effort for him to stop Dobey, who looks at the top of his game.

Hollywood made the semi-finals of this month's World Grand Prix, upsetting Gary Anderson before bumping into champion Michael van Gerwen in the last four.

Dobey is a heavy scorer who doesn't waste time on doubles, highlighted by his decisive 6-3 opening-round win over one of this season's form players Krzysztof Ratajski.

The Bedlington man averaged a shade over 92 and was strong on his check-outs - he was six from 13 - and that makes him a difficult proposition.

An all-Dutch second-round clash pits Jeffrey de Zwaan against Jermaine Wattimena and the Black Cobra is fancied to come out on top.

All three meetings this year have gone Wattimena's way but De Zwaan was simply brilliant in his victory over Peter Wright in his Gottingen curtain-raiser, where he fired six maximums on his way to a 101.87 average.

His slick style can deliver mixed results but if in similar vein to his 6-4 win over an in-form Wright, then he should take some stopping.

Michael Smith should reward odds-on backers against Stephen Bunting but Gerwyn Price may find things tougher in his clash with Nathan Aspinall, who beat the Iceman 11-9 in the semi-finals of his Coral UK Open triumph.
