Defending champion Michael van Gerwen has barely put a dart wrong over the first two rounds of World Matchplay action, but now comes the Dutch destroyer’s first serious test.

After sweeping aside Jamie Caven and Kyle Anderson for the loss of just three legs, Van Gerwen tackles Dave Chisnall in Blackpool tonight as we hit the quarter-finals.

And if Chizzy’s summer improvements are anything to go by then the ninth seed can give the world number one a decent game in a searing Winter Gardens. He’s definitely worth backing with a start of 6.5 legs on the handicap, meaning he’d need to win at least ten legs in a race to 16 – something that’s well within his compass.
